Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl โ€” who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up โ€” getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
